Ophelia Appleby

Ophelia Appleby is a figurative painter based in Cumbria, England. Her explorative work primarily concerns the hyper-scrutiny of fleeting facial nuances (and how they pertain to non-verbal communication), the investigation of private human experiences, and the perception of dignity. She began painting portrait commissions while studying for her A-levels, following which she obtained a degree in classical music from the Royal Northern College of Music. It was not until after the pandemic that painting became her primary focus. She now has pieces in private collections across the UK, as well as the Grange Gallery, and prepares to exhibit work internationally this year.
